The Yok: Hagar and Multigrain Man
berlinpiraten: What does streetart mean to you?
Yok: A form of expression and a great way to freshen up a concrete city.
berlinpiraten: How much does streetart influence your everyday life (your job, training, study, …)?
Yok: Art filters its way into my everyday life, when i’ see someone else’s work from the train that inspires me to think about my work and how i can make it better or more thought provoking. I enjoy making art so its amazing how much i let it surround my life in every way from friends to work.
berlinpiraten: How did you came to the idea of making streetart and what do you prefer (paper art, graffiti and so on)?
Yok: I like the idea that it is an interruption to peoples day to day. like a little time out to wonder what this is all about. It usually depends where i am, and what materials are on hand when choosing which meduim to work with. Paint is def more fun.
berlinpiraten: For how long are you activ/ making streetart?
Yok: Around 2001.
berlinpiraten: Where (country, city ..) can people admire your work?
Yok: Australia and around.
Graffiti Face
berlinpiraten: Which artist or group of artists inspired you?
Yok: Twist, Phill Frost, AM crew (Perth) www.brookebobridge.com, www.theayems.com, Everfreah crew, Twoone, Bonsai, Nails.
berlinpiraten: Do you connect any aims (political, artisitical…) with your streetart?
Yok: Just interruptions really, making people think, consider doing something a bit out of the ordinary, rather then what program is on TV tonight.
berlinpiraten: What would you recommend to people who want to get active themselves?
Yok: Have fun!
berlinpiraten: What do you think about the rising commercialization of streetart and graffiti? Are there pros and cons?
Yok: Cons its making it too commercial,
Pros some people are getting paid,
cons some people are getting paid.
Thanks for your answers Yok!
